We had a wonderful presentation today of Jazz through History. The students had an absolute blast clapping, laughing, and dancing. Daniel even got to go up front and help out during the assembly!
The students to have a current event due March 10th. We will work on this in the classroom. However, they do need to bring in a current event article no later than March 10th, but no sooner than March 2nd or 3rd. The last time we did these the students realized how important it is to bring in an article you are actually interested in and can comprehend. Many students were very confused by their article or bored by the content. We've talked a lot about being selective and making the right choices in regards to the article.
A few tips for the night before and day of the Wrting TAKS...
Just make sure to remind them how much you believe in them and that you know they will do well (not the morning to add any extra pressure about scores, etc.) Just remind them to do everything they've learned this year and work their absolute hardest.

Content Areas
Writing- Our obvious focus is TAKS on Tuesday. We will do some fun, free write activities the other days of the week.
Reading- In reading we finish our study on character traits and move into story plot. We take a look at the spectrum of plot from the introduction and the problem, to the climax, solution, and conclusion. We are also enjoying our novel The Indian in the Cupboard and tying our reading lessons into our novel.
Math- We just finished Unit 7 in math and begin Unit 8 on Monday focusing on area and customary/metric units of length.
Science - GO GREEN!! We begin our new planner- Going Green. This week we discuss what that term means, how it applies to our everyday lives and students have an opportunity to get creative in groups and show what the phrase "Going green" means to them. We will do a gallery walk of the groups' work and students will comment and take notes on the different ideas and thoughts. We will also look at the difference between A-ffect vs. E-ffect and how it relates to the relationship between humans and the environment.
Social Studies- We've wrapped our government planner and now continue with Texas history. We are reading and learning about the Austin family and the Old 300 who first began colonies in Texas under Spanish (and later Mexican), rule.
As always, thank you for all that you do to support your child's learning. They are such a great class and I truly appreciate your support. Have a great weekend!
