I am so proud of the performance your children put on last night. They did such a great job and sang beautifully!
I hope to see lots of you out while we are caroling tonight. Bundle up! **Native artifact boxes are due on Wednesday, December 14th. Math Workshop: Next week we will continue learning about fractions. Students will add fractions to get mixed numbers as well as learn how to subtract fractions from whole numbers. We will also compare and order fractions, specifically by comparing them to ½. Students will also find a fraction of a set using manipulatives, bar models, and number representation. Writing workshop: We will spend next week writing to holiday themed prompts. Students will have lots of time to write to use their imaginations and write creatively about a wide variety of topics. Students will also participate in a whole class activity where we write to our classmates and show our appreciation for each person in our room. Reading/Daily 5: Next week we review summary for fiction. Students will be reminded of our strategy (somebody, wanted, so, but, then). They will put this strategy into practice using short stories and picture books. We continue with our book clubs and class read aloud as well. Social Studies: We are hard at work finishing up our brochures on our natives and getting ready for the Gallery Walk on Friday, December 16th. We can’t wait to see their artifact boxes! We continue reading about tribes in Texas, watching videos, and discussing their migration patterns, causes, and effects. Science: I hope your child is remembering to fill in their moon book each night by shading the moon, writing the date, and writing the phase, using their moon wheel. Next week we will review and take a quiz on many of the concepts we have learned so far in Science this year. Upcoming Dates December 14- Name that Book Qualifying test 7:05 in the library December 15- Holiday party December 16- Gallery Walk Hello Parents,
I hope you are staying dry this weekend and enjoying the cooler weather. As always we have been busy, busy, but are having fun! Be on the lookout for a paper invite/rsvp to the 4th grade Native Gallery Walk on December 16th. Please, please make sure you are VIPS approved. Here is the latest and greatest: Math Workshop: We continue learning about fractions next week. Students will learn how to turn a mixed number into an improper fraction and how to write an improper fraction as a mixed number. We will review division and multiplication as well. Students will use models to represent mixed numbers and improper fractions. Writing Workshop: Next week we will learn how to use word referents to add variety to our writing. So in a prompt about a dog as a favorite pet, instead of repeating dog throughout, students will learn to use word referents- Ex. slobbery canine. We will also learn how to elaborate our main ideas using authentic connections from our lives. Grammar: We will review commas- with dates, addresses, compound sentences, introductory phrases, etc. Reading/Daily 5: We will continue reviewing how to make an inference/draw conclusions while reading. Students will also read passages about Native Americans and answer reading comprehension questions. Science: Students will review and learn about the moon’s phases. Students will view videos, do simulations with a flashlight, and create a “flip wheel” of the phases. My class will also keep a moon phases calendar for the next two weeks. Social Studies/IB: We are continuing to gather notefacts about our chosen native/tribe. Students are working hard to gather the appropriate information so they can start writing their brochures. We’re also reading about specific tribes in class. We can’t wait to see their artifact boxes on the 14th!
