Hi Parents,
I can't believe that Thanksgiving is almost here! A few upcoming notices- next week is the Book Fair. Our class will go on Tuesday, November 16th at 12:30pm. Also, next Friday we will be passing out the list of words to study for those wishing to try and qualify for the Spelling Bee. The lists will go home with all students interested. The "pre-bee" will be held before school on December 2nd. More details to follow. Please speak with your child to find out if he/she is interested in trying out for the bee. I hope you all received the letter regarding the Austin field trip. I know several of you are planning to attend. That is wonderful. Please, please make sure you are registered through HISD. The information is in the top portion of the letter we sent home. This is different than volunteering at Roberts. You must be district approved and the process takes at least a week, if not more. I attached a copy of the letter into the email I sent regarding this week's blog. So if you need the information about where to register, please see the letter. Thanks! Have a great weekend!
Content Areas:
Writing- This week we are wrapping up our planner. The students will publish their final drafts, share them, and fill out a reflection regarding the heart of their story. I am impressed with the progress they have made this year in writing.
Math- In math we begin looking at partial prodcuts in multiplication and reviewing multiplication rules and tricks, such as the products of ones and tens and tens and hundreds. We will also look at estimation.
Reading- In reading we continue studying idioms. We are also finishing up the novel, Shiloh, which has been such an excellent read.
Science - This week we spend some time reviewing concepts of matter. We will also be making some yucky, GAK in class on Monday to observe property changes.
Social Studies- We are creating Power Points on Monday that go with the current events. Each student will present one day this week. This week we look at explorers and their reasons for exploration. We begin our planner on explorers in a week or so.
