Math Workshop: Next week we will start Unit 2. Our focus will be using rounding to check for reasonableness of sums and differences as well as products and quotients. We will teach front end estimation. We will also learn when we can estimate vs. find the exact answer. Students have a fun tie in/extension to do dealing with being given menu, a budget, and finding what the change would be. They will also use grocery store fliers for a fun culminating activity.

Writing Workshop: Last week we focused on adding details to our narratives and this week we’ll do this by using our senses. We’ll do an activity on Monday involving pickles and sensory details. Students will also look at strong mentor text and highlight beautiful language and descriptive details that help us visualize their writing. Finally students will practice putting all of their knowledge together by writing a small moment.
Grammar: Grammar will be a review of concepts covered thus far.
Daily 5/Reading/IB: Next week students will take the summative for our Unit of Inquiry into “Who We Are.” We will also review concepts taught and continue with our Daily 5 rotations and book clubs. The students are loving our class read aloud- Joey Pigza.
Science: Next week we will look at learned vs. inherited traits as well as learned behavior vs. instinct. These lessons are always fun for students as they learn more about themselves and the traits that make them unique. We will briefly discuss genes and the environment.
Social Studies: Next week we will reading Texas Studies Weekly, week 6 where we continue to learn how the Natives adapted to their environment in order to survive. We will learn about the tribes that are native to Texas.
