Well as usual the time as flown by and we're down to our last week of school before the first semester ends! We have been extremely busy working on the Explorer project and look forward to seeing everyone that can make it at the Gallery Walk on Thursday, December 16th. Our class presents their projects from 8:30-9:15. You will have the opportunity to visit with your child as well as walk around and visit the other students and their projects. We hope to see you there.
On that note, please make sure your child had either finished or at least started their artificat and box. Both of these items are due on Tuesday. I have shown the students an example of the shoe box project and what it should look like. They have also seen the rubric, so they know what they are being graded on.
Next week will fly by and we have lots of things going on. The class holiday party is scheduled for Friday, December 17th starting at 1:45pm. You are welcome to attend. We will have karaoke at the party, so if your child is asking to bring c.d.'s to school next week, that is why.
Content Areas:
Math- We are finishing up Unit 5 and we will take the Unit 5 test on either Tuesday or Wednesday. After the test we will spend a couple of days working on "Elfometry." The students will use what they know about Geometry to create snowmen and a winter scene. The directions require them to follow very precise directions using geometric measurements and figures.
Writing- In writing we continue to think like journalists and look for opportunities to write about.
Science- In science we are studying electricity and learning about series and parallel circuits. We attended lab this past week and learned which components were vital in order for a bulb to light. In class this week we will use science materials to make series and parallel circuits.
Reading- We finish up our study of similes and metaphors by doing some literary grafitti (art graphics) on the computer.
Social Studies- Again, we are busily wrapping up all the details of our Explorer project.
Important Dates
December 15th- Fifth grade exhibition
December 16th- Fourth grade Gallery Walk
December 17th- Holiday party at 1:45 pm
December 17th- Last day of school for first semester
January 4- School resumes
I can't believe how quickly the first semester always goes by. I truly enjoy being a part of Roberts and teaching your children each day. They are funny, bright, and motivated. I hope you all enjoy the winter break and get some much deserved rest and relaxation!
